Save Money and Space with Our RV Tips for Packing!

If you’re new to RVing, let us help you save space and money while you get ready to pack up, hitch up, and hit the road with your new or used RV! Take a look at our RV tips for packing 101 to know what you should pack and what you can safely leave at home.

Essentials Come First

Real talk: everything you pack takes up space and weighs something – and that adds up! Look for space-saving items that are multipurpose, and decrease multiple sets of things (you probably don’t need multiple skillets and sauce pans). When looking at your kitchen tools, say no to breakable or fragile items as much as possible. You’d be surprised at how a literal bump in the road can cause significant jostling and potential breakage! Use melamine or sturdy plastic plates and drinkware instead of ceramic dishes or glassware.

Make a Meal Plan

Nothing blows up your food budget faster than eating out more often than you anticipated – but it’s an easy decision to make when you’re at the end of a long day. Save money on food expenses by making a meal plan in advance, prepping what you can, and then sticking to the plan. It’ll also help you figure out exactly which of those kitchen tools you need and which ones you don’t.

Pick Lightweight, Packable Gear

When shopping for camp gear like hammocks, camping chairs, picnic tents, etc., go for lightweight versions. Packable, quick-dry fabrics are your friend, and always pick aluminum-framed items over steel. These options take up less space as well as weigh less – without sacrificing quality.

The Fun Stuff

Once you’ve got the essentials packed, take a look at the fun things you want with you. This should align with the hobbies you already enjoy at home. For example, if you’ve never kayaked before, now isn’t the time to buy a kayak and life vests. But if that’s one of your favorite pasttimes, and you’re headed to a campground with a lake, by all means take it with you! Same goes for things like hiking boots, bikes, board games, and corn hole. If it’s something you already love to do and will be a key part of your camping trip, bring it. If not, it doesn’t make the cut (at least not this time).
